ADDED BY THE PRODUCER
Amaro San Simone is a Turin-produced Italian amaro described by the producer as a blend of 39 herbs, roots and plants, cold-blended from bases obtained through maceration, infusion and filtration over several months. Press coverage names gentian, cinchona, wormwood, rhubarb root and marjoram among the botanicals, and a retail listing additionally reports cinnamon, peppermint and savory; the producer declares water, sugar, grain alcohol, natural flavourings and caramel from pure sugar as base ingredients. The recipe traces to a 1583 monastic depurativo formula, reformulated into its current commercial form around 1960 by pharmacist Aldo Fechino.
